Bizzle or Dext?
Not the same category.

Dext is receipt and invoice capture that feeds your accounting software. It is not a ledger. Bizzle includes capture as one part of a full back office, so the comparison is really whether you want a best-in-class capture tool bolted on, or capture built in.

What is actually different?

Dext does one thing extremely well: it reads receipts, bills and statements and pushes clean data into Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. It is a specialist, and specialists are usually better at their one thing.

Bizzle reads documents too, but as part of the same system that holds the ledger, so there is no push step and no sync to go wrong. The document, the transaction and the journal are one record rather than three joined by an integration.

So this is not really a like-for-like fight. It is Dext plus an accounting product plus whatever chases your invoices, against one system that does all of it slightly less specialistically.

Where Dext is the better choice

  • Extraction accuracy on awkward documents. It is what they do all day, and on faded thermal receipts and unusual supplier layouts it shows.
  • It works with whatever ledger you already have, so it is additive rather than a migration.
  • Practices use it at scale across client books, and that workflow is well developed.
  • If you are happy with your accounting software and only the paperwork is painful, Dext solves exactly that and nothing else — which is a virtue.

So which should you pick?

Choose Dext if your accounting software is fine and receipt capture is the only gap you want filled.

Choose Bizzle if you would rather not maintain a chain of tools, and want the capture, the ledger, the chasing and the phone in one place.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions people ask.

Can I use Dext with Bizzle?

Not currently. Bizzle's capture is built in, which is why there is no publish step — the trade-off is that you get ours rather than choosing your own.

Is Bizzle's extraction as accurate as Dext's?

On ordinary documents, comparable. On genuinely awkward ones, Dext is a specialist and it shows. What Bizzle removes is the sync between capture and ledger, which is its own source of errors.

Does Dext do bookkeeping?

No. It captures and categorises documents and publishes them into accounting software. You still need the accounting software, which is the main thing to understand when comparing costs.

My accountant set me up on Dext. Should I keep it?

If their practice runs Dext across all its clients, that workflow has real value and you should talk to them before changing it. Bizzle gives them a free login to the same documents and ledger, but it is a different workflow from the one they have standardised on.
