Bizzle or Sage?
Payroll is the question.

Sage is the long-standing incumbent in UK business software, strongest on payroll depth and compliance history. Bizzle is a back office with the same double-entry foundation that also answers the phone and chases invoices. If complex payroll is your workload, Sage earns its place.

What is actually different?

Sage has been doing UK compliance longer than most of its competitors have existed, and that shows most clearly in payroll — the awkward cases, the historical corrections, the things that only matter once a year and matter enormously then.

Bizzle runs payroll too, in the same system as the books, billed per payslip rather than per employee. That is simpler and cheaper for a small team, and it is not as deep as Sage for a complicated one.

Outside payroll the comparison is the familiar one: Sage is accounting software, Bizzle is the whole back office including the phone, the chasing and the filing.

Where Sage is the better choice

  • Payroll depth. If you have complex arrangements, historical corrections or awkward statutory cases, Sage handles them and we may not.
  • Longevity in UK compliance. They have seen every HMRC change of the last thirty years, which is not nothing when the rules move again.
  • Established relationships with larger accountancy practices, particularly ones handling more complex clients.
  • A desktop lineage that some businesses genuinely prefer, and a support structure built around it.

So which should you pick?

Choose Sage if payroll complexity is the real workload, or your practice has standardised on it for compliance reasons.

Choose Bizzle if your payroll is straightforward and your actual problem is everything else — the phone, the chasing, the filing, the evenings.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions people ask.

Is Bizzle's payroll as good as Sage's?

For a small team on standard arrangements, it does the job and it lives in the same place as your books. For genuinely complex payroll, Sage is deeper, and we would rather tell you that than have you discover it in month two.

Can I keep Sage for payroll and use Bizzle for the books?

You can, and some businesses will want to. It means two systems and a reconciliation between them, which is a real cost, so it is worth being deliberate about rather than drifting into it.

We have used Sage for years. Is migrating worth it?

Only if something is actually wrong. Long-standing Sage setups usually carry years of configuration that works; the case for moving is admin load elsewhere, not dissatisfaction with the ledger.

Does Bizzle charge per employee for payroll?

No. Payroll is billed per payslip on top of the flat per-business price, so three staff paid monthly means three payslips a month and nothing for anyone who is not paid. For a handful of employees on standard arrangements that is simpler; for a large or complicated payroll the comparison is less clear-cut.

Stop doing the admin.
