What actually takes the time
Not producing the accounts. Reconciling to them: finding out what a transfer in March was for, whether an invoice was ever paid, why the bank balance does not agree with the ledger.
That work is archaeology, and it is what most of an accountant's fee actually buys. It disappears entirely when the records were kept as the year went.
